Soundtrack : Jerry Downey

Love bandit, music-deviant, late night party hero – Jerry Downey is the mind behind Sexual Tension Detroit and an enigmatic force in Detroit’s party scene. Downey cut his teeth DJing at after-hours parties in Detroit during the late ‘00’s. He regularly throws underground parties and has licensed music to household names such as Atlantic Records and Warner while artfully balancing life as an elected public official. His crucial role in the now-defunct Warehouse 1018, local residency track record, and studio efforts keep him busy with a frequent event schedule piloted by a mindful understanding of contemporary dance environments which has resulted in club appearances at nearly every major proving ground in the United States.

On being a Detroit DJ
“In regard to playing dance music, there’s no denying that Detroit is an international proving ground with a deep-rooted history and rich culture. As a resident, it truly is a privilege to have access to our local record shops, incredible venues, mentors, and diverse and supportive community. These elements, in conjunction, are crucial to the health of any underground dance scene and I couldn’t be more grateful for the access to opportunity and information that the city of Detroit is able to provide. Detroit’s talent pool is world-class, often playing to more informed audiences. When you step into the booth of an intimate dancefloor here, you better come correct.”
